The alumni association organizes activities for alumni, often in collaboration with the department of BmE and study association Protagoras. In addition to this, the alumni association is actively involved in career development for the current generation of students and PhD students of the department of BmE. Jacob, Willem’s father, was born and educated in the Netherlands. Willem’s mother Louise was the daughter of the then Director of Finance in the Indies. He was the third child out of six born to Louise Caroline and Jacob Einthoven. All alumni can benefit from this network both professionally and socially. Biography: Willem Einthoven was born on May 21st 1860 in the Dutch West Indies. Our alumni are among others working in (medical devices) companies, hospitals, at universities and in all other types of engineering roles. The association is named after the Dutch scientist Willem Einthoven, who in 1924 became the first Dutchman to receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine for inventing the electrocardiograph (ECG).Īlumni association Willem Einthoven builds and maintains a network of alumni working in all fields of expertise. Our alumni are graduates from one of the master’s degree programs of the department, the former Biomedical Mechanical Engineering program and graduated PhD students of the department of Biomedical Engineering. Willem Einthoven is the alumni association for graduates of the department of Biomedical Engineering (BmE).
